Lawn Care During Heavy Rains

Heavy spring rains can confuse people when it comes to timing of their lawn care products.  Doc discusses the impact of these rains and how to properly time your lawn treatments.  We need to think of our lawns and soils as a sponge. We want to apply treatments to a dry sponge.

Hey Doc, new to lawn care. San Diego, Ca. My lawn is probably 40 50% weeds/dirt and mix of grass types, with some Bermuda. I would like the Bermuda to take over. I made a mistake and put some cheap seed down in the dirt areas a few weeks ago. It is not growing that well in some areas, but ok in others. I wish I would have seen the fix ugly lawn video prior to putting any seed down, but nothing I can do now. I am planning to plant some more seed this season, but I don’t know… Read more »

This past month of February I put down 2 full bags of the Humichar. 1 bag the first week of February and I just put down my 2nd bag today. I noticed the bag rate is 1lb for 1000 square feet. My front yard is 6500 and my back is about 23,000. I have the Agrifab spreader and I set it at about 5 or 6. I am putting down a full bag and only get the front, side, and part of the back. After days of rain, I finally had two nice days for my lawn to dry out a bit. I put down 10-10-10 and Barricade pre emergent on Sunday. Then, it rained a ton again on Monday. Much more than what was called for. Do you think my Barricade has been washed away?

Question from texas: The Snow kinda threw off the schedule a little. When should the Humichar be dropped, before or after scalping? If before, how long do I wait to scalp?

Thanks

Hey Doc,

Really looking forward to your power washer video as I was looking to get one to clean up some concrete in the spring. Also I’m looking to redo the shrubbery beds. Have you ever done a video about planning and re-planting shrubbery beds?

Love your videos!
