Gas Powered Reel Mowers Cutting Short

Doc shows the two models of gas powered reel mowers and cuts the lawns short down to 1/2 inch.  Reel mowers are the only way to cut your grass below the one inch level and give that golf course quality lawn.  While they’re not cheap, there are some reel mowers that are fairly affordable.  The ability to work on these reel mowers at home, is a huge advantage over other models.

Hi Doc
Love the videos I just got my Clemson soil test results back and it says i have excessive amounts of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) and calcium (CA) I have been using PGF Complete every 3 weeks during the growing season. How do i bring down these levels? Thanks so much

Great information as always. Here is a cut height question. If I scalped at around 3/4 can I keep mowing at that same height or do I have to always mow slightly higher that the scalp height? And that really goes for any height of scalp then maintenance mow.
How much difference ( or offset) in scalp vs mow heights?
Thanks

Hi Doc, I have been a faithful follower of yours for over three years. I most recently purchased the McLane 25″ GR series mower to start cutting low. I got the grooved roller deal from Dolphin as you recommended, but out of the box and after assembly, there are two big issues: 1) on the lowest settings (“A” position, Notch 1), it will not mow below 1.25″, as oppose to the advertised 3/4 inch height. I checked the height with an Accu-gage that went up to an inch and it never touched. And 2) the clutch belt guard was digging… Read more »
