Lymow One Plus Over Heating Fix

lawn care products

If you’ve been putting your new Lymow One Plus robotic mower through its paces, you might have run into a frustrating snag: thermal shutdown. While it’s built like a tank and easily tears through thick grass, that massive boost in cutting motor power generates serious heat—especially when working under the direct summer sun.

Fortunately, you don’t have to wait for an official hardware redesign. After testing a few different methods to shield the internal components, I found a simple, highly effective DIY fix that keeps the mower running cool without interfering with its sleek design.

The Tape

The Problem: High Power Meets High Sun

The Lymow One Plus boasts an incredible 50% bump in cutting disc motor power compared to earlier iterations. While this is amazing for handling overgrown lawns and rough terrain, it creates a perfect storm for overheating:

  • Increased Internal Draw: More powerful motors naturally generate higher ambient heat inside the sealed, weatherproof housing.
  • Solar Radiation: The dark chassis absorbs direct sunlight rapidly, turning the mower into a mini-greenhouse while it works.
  • Lack of Active Cooling: Because the unit must remain tightly sealed against moisture and debris, trapped heat has nowhere to go.

The Solution: Radiant Shielding with Air-Pocket Foil Tape

Instead of trying to vent a sealed unit (which would ruin its weatherproofing), the goal is to stop radiant solar heat from penetrating the shell in the first place. The secret weapon? Air-pocket reflective foil tape.

Why This Specific Tape Works:

Standard foil tape only reflects light, but it can still conduct heat directly to the plastic shell. By using a specialty foil tape featuring integrated miniature air pockets (similar to micro-bubble insulation), you get a dual-action defense: the outer foil reflects up to 97% of radiant solar heat, while the tiny air gaps act as a thermal break to completely stop heat conduction.

How to Apply the Fix

To give your mower the best thermal protection, target the primary areas where heat builds up or enters the device:

  1. Clean the Surface: Thoroughly wipe down the top and sides of the inner chassis cover with rubbing alcohol to remove grass dust, sap, and oils. This ensures the adhesive bonds permanently.
  2. Target the Main Canopy: Measure and apply strips of the air-pocket foil tape along the upper sections of the housing that face directly up at the sun.
  3. Shield the Battery/Motor Compartment Zones: Focus heavily on the sections directly shielding the internal electronics and cutting disc motors.
  4. Smooth It Out: Press firmly along the edges of the tape to prevent water or debris from getting underneath the adhesive over time.

By deflecting the sun’s rays and breaking the thermal bridge, this quick modification drops internal operating temperatures significantly, keeping your Lymow One Plus out on the lawn and out of thermal safety mode.
